Early Learning Rooms& Daily Life
Every child is different, and every stage of early learning brings something new.
At Havelock North Village Kids, our centre is set up to support children as they grow, explore, build confidence, and become more independent. Our two rooms provide age-appropriate spaces for younger and older children, while still keeping the centre connected, familiar, and easy for families to feel part of.
TUi ROOM
0-3 YEARS
FOR BABIES AND YOUNGER CHILDREN
The Tui Room supports our youngest children as they settle into care, build trust, and begin exploring the world around them.
Our teachers follow a play-based learning and primary care approach, helping babies and toddlers feel secure as they move from home into the centre environment. Wherever possible, children are supported by familiar teachers who share everyday moments of care, comfort, play, and connection.
The room offers calm indoor and outdoor spaces where children can explore safely, follow their interests, and develop early confidence. Routines are handled with care and patience, giving each child time to feel settled, known, and ready to engage.
Pukeko Room
3–5 Years
FOR OLDER CHILDREN
The Pukeko Room supports older children as they grow in confidence, independence, and social connection.
Learning is still play-based, but experiences are extended to support children’s developing interests, knowledge, and skills. Teachers create opportunities for children to solve problems, communicate, move, create, work alongside others, and take increasing responsibility for themselves and their environment.
School readiness is woven naturally into the programme through everyday learning. Children are supported to build the confidence, independence, communication skills, and practical abilities that help them feel ready for their next step.
A day shaped around children
Each day at Havelock North Village Kids has a calm and familiar rhythm, while still allowing room for children’s interests, energy, and needs.
Children have time for free play, outdoor exploration, creative activities, kai, rest, group moments, and spontaneous learning throughout the day. Some experiences are planned by teachers, while others grow naturally from what children are noticing, asking, building, testing, or imagining.
This balance helps children feel secure without being rushed. They know there is structure around them, but they also have space to make choices, try new things, and learn through play.
Learning through play
We believe play is one of the most important ways children learn.
Through play, children build language, literacy, numeracy, movement, creativity, problem-solving, and social skills in ways that feel natural and meaningful. A sandpit can become a place for teamwork and planning.
Blocks can support early maths and problem-solving. Time in the garden
can build curiosity, care, and connection with the natural world.
Our teachers observe, guide, extend, and support this learning, helping children grow as confident and capable learners.
Indoor and outdoor spaces to explore
Our centre includes both indoor and outdoor spaces designed to support different kinds of play, learning, and connection.
Inside, children have space for creativity, quieter activities, group moments, stories, construction, imaginative play, and hands-on learning. Outside, they are encouraged to move, climb, dig, investigate, care for nature, and develop their physical skills.
The outdoor environment is an important part of daily life at Havelock North Village Kids. It gives children room to explore, build confidence, notice the world around them, and develop a stronger connection with nature.
